The Indian government has recently granted permission for public companies in India to directly list their securities on GIFT City’s international stock exchanges. This move is expected to enable startups and unlisted companies to access global capital and tap into emerging sectors.

GIFT City is India’s first operational greenfield smart city and international financial services centre, which the Government of Gujarat promoted as a greenfield project. It is a multi-service Special Economic Zone (SEZ) with India’s first notified International Financial Services Center (IFSC) and an exclusive Domestic Tariff Area (DTA). It is positioned as a financial and technological hub designed to cater to customers outside the Indian jurisdiction.

GIFT City’s exchanges, such as India International Exchange and NSE International Exchange, are under the regulatory supervision of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). They offer a range of financial and technological services to domestic and global clients, such as banking, capital markets, insurance, fintech, and more. They also provide a plug-and-play infrastructure for businesses seeking unparalleled accelerated growth, with a single-window clearance system and global benchmarking for ease of doing business.

The permission for Indian companies to directly list their securities on GIFT City’s international stock exchanges is a significant development for GIFT City and the Indian economy. It will attract more domestic and global players to invest in India and create new opportunities for businesses and investors. It will also enhance India’s financial and technological capabilities and leadership, as well as promote its transition to a sustainable economy and a net-zero target.
